Despite that until recently what we called “developed world” has been constructed around unsustainable production and development models it is nonetheless true that in such societies has appeared a progressive social conscience of the problems raised by the human action in the nature, conscience that has resulted in the search of a new equilibrium based on the idea of some sort of development, that is, willing to last over time and which at the same time coordinates economic growth and the improvement of welfare respecting ecological, social and cultural values.
This awareness towards sustainability finds in the model of land use one of its major areas of interest. La Vall d’Albaida has a forest wealth such as the Natural Park of La Serra de Mariola and its environments, with more of c 1.200 classified vegetal species, in the exceptional landscape value of the shaded spot of the shady spot of Benicadell or in the forests of laurel and cork oaks of the Montduver or Marxuquera Mountains, some of its main assets. This is undoubtedly a natural heritage that must be protected and managed through a global perspective that serves both for its ecological dimension and for its social and ethical dimension.
These cycle of conferences strengthen and institutionalise the relationship -started on 2011-between the UV and the city of Ontinyent and its region, through a training offer that complements the undergraduate degrees taught at the university headquarters. These actions are addressed to students, professors, researchers, members of the regional studies centres, associations and to the public in general.
