Academic, scientific or professional interest: The continuous development and growing importance of professionals and researchers graduated in different degrees in the field of education, social sciences and humanities, and specifically in the context of social education require an academic programme that examines new fields of interdisciplinary knowledge and that provides conceptual and procedural tools to improve professional competitiveness and research capacity. The curriculum offered in these undergraduate degrees includes a wide range of knowledge related to the socio-psycho-pedagogical training of professionals who will participate in social and educational intervention projects and programmes. But sometimes such training is not enough to examine social and educational problems in depth. Indeed, as several analysis of the social world have pointed out, the structural complexity is growing and the current stage of capitalism, previously focused on work and production, shows now new sides related to consumption, individualization and the precariousness of human bonds. Deregulation and economic globalisation produce new forms of social and cultural relations, more fragile and changing. When facing this transitory and liquid reality (in Bauman’s terms), social educators need to raise new questions, design new strategies and enable new forms for the research and construction of socially and educationally useful knowledge. The Master’s Degree in Educational and Social Action is based, both academically and professionally, on these new analyses and intends to introduce graduates to the new problems and to develop the knowledge required to obtain appropriate answers. This Master’s degree is focused on the professionalisation of social and educational action and opens the door to research. That’s a fundamental aspect for Social Education graduates, who didn’t have a pathway to research in the former Diplomatura. It is also an interesting option for graduates in other fields such as pedagogy, education, psychology or social work who are developing their professional career in this interdisciplinary area. This Master’s degree integrates the experience and networks gained in the two degrees linked to the Master’s which have been taught at the Faculty: the “Diploma in Mediation in Educational Intervention” and the “European Master’s Degree in Analysis and Innovation of Social and Educational Intervention”.
