The tennis team of the UV wins two bronze medals in the Spanish University Championship

The Universitat de València achieves a fourth place in the teams table among a total of 30 competing universities.

More than 80 tennis players from 30 universities across the country met at the Murcia Tennis Club 1919, where the Spanish University Tennis Championship (CEU) was held from April 23rd to April 25th.

In the women’s individual modality, the player Gemma Lairon from the UV won the bronze medal. She won the round of 16 and the quarter-finals matches, but lost in semi-finals against Alba Rey from this year’s host university, the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), who ended up winning the championship.

In the women’s doubles modality, the tennis players of the Universitat de València, Ana Martínez and Mireia Monet, finished the championship in third place after losing against the representatives from the Catholic University of Valencia, Paula Balaguer and Mireia Pons, who won the silver medal. The golden medal went to the women’s pair from the UCAM, comprised of Olga Esteve and Tita Torró.

In the men’s individual modality, the tennis player of the Universitat de València, Raul Gil, finished in fourth place. The pair comprised of Mario García and Nicolás Terrer achieved the same position in the men’s doubles modality.  

The Catholic University of Murcia won the total overall of the championship. It was followed by the University of Sevilla and the University of Granada. The Univeristat de València finished in fourth place from a total of 30 participating universities.
