The women's football team of the Universitat de València has played the final of the National University Championship against the University of Barcelona and returns home with the silver medal.
The Spanish University 11-a side Football Championship (CEU), organised by the Catholic University San Antonio of Murcia (UCAM), has brought together men’s and women’s teams from 19 universities throughout the country in 4 Murcian stadiums. They have fought to win medals from April 5th to April 7th.
The girls of the UV did not start the championship in the best possible way, since they lost against the University of Lleida 0-1. However, they started their take off destroying the Basque Country 4-1 and, later, the Zaragoza girls 5-0. They reached semifinals second in their group. They faced Lleida again in the semi-finals match and redeemed themselves from that initial defeat by winning with a crushing result of 3-0. They reached the final, where they fought for the title in a very tight match against the University of Barcelona. However, they were unable to come back in and the match finished 1-0 in favour of the Catalan girls.
As for the boys, the Universitat de València boys did not get as far into the championship as the girls did. In the group stage, they won against the University of Zaragoza with an overwhelming 4-1, but then they lost against the host university 3-0.
