The UV chess team, trained by Ramón García, will travel to Elche next Tuesday to defend the regional championship they currently hold. The competition is divided into two sessions (morning and afternoon); it starts at the room of El Clot Building (Universidad Miguel Hernández) at 10:00 and the awards ceremony will take place.

The team will go to the meeting with 10 players: Fernando Silva, Javier Nieves, Francisco Rubio, Samuel Navarrete, Antonio Guillot, Juan Antonio Cebrián, César Giménez, Néstor Calvo, Bruno Palomo and Àngels Cucarella.

Ramón García, coach of the UV’s team feels optimistic about the team “we have a chance to get the goal in the male’s category, whose level is very similar to that of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV). So is the women’s team; however, we are only going to the meeting with a girl, which makes it more difficult to access classification as the punctuation of a team is based on two players. Our chance of renewing the gold in the teams section is lower and we will probably fight to come in second with the University of Alacant (UA)”.

The coach gives more details on these regulations “I believe that this year it will be based on the level of the second girls, both from the UPV (where there should be a vacancy to have better chances) and the UA (who will have a good player). On our part, the regulations state that the lack of a player (in this case, the lack of a second girl), the points will be those of the last person in the classification, which means that it could also be good for us if one player finished with cero points, which mainly depends on the number of players being odd (when this happens, the last person in the classification receives one point due to the impossibility of matching him up as long as he has not received it before)”.

Regarding the team members, this edition will count with the debut of Samuel Navarrete (FIDE master and recent absolute champion of Alicante) and Francisco Rubio, current sub18 autonomous champion.

As in previous university sport competitions, the Physical Education and Sports Service will broadcast live the matches through its official social networks (Twitter:@sefuv and www.facebook.com/SEFUV) in which will offer to all supporters the more immediate information of the matches results.
