The Universitat de València hosted the Fast Chess Championship, the first stop of the strategists before the autonomic round. The chess players went to the Tarongers Campus to dispute the championship that served as preparation for the qualifying tournament of the CADU, which starts on 23 November.

The level of the competitors in this edition surpassed the prior championships. The most clear example can be seen in the first places of the ranking, where the first 6 chess players had an ELO higher to 2100 and the championship had the participation of a FIDE Master (current absolute champion in Valencia), a great incentive for the competitors that already predict a tough battle next week in the fight for being part of the university team.

The championship was so close that the first three classified were even to 5,5 points over 8 possible, since each one of them lost a game.
The championship reached the final games with the triumph of the Medicine students, where the breakthrough favoured the player from Alicante and FIDE Master Samuel Navarrete, followed by Javier Nieves (who already took part of the team last year in the CADU and the CEU) and Francisco Rubio, also first year student. Fernando Silva, usual member of the team and best player for the last years, had to conform to the fourth place, not being able of regaining the last year’s first place.

The next meeting is the Internal Chess Championship, a qualifying tournament for the CADU and whose registration is open until 19 November. It is a fantastic opportunity to see the best chess players of the Universitat in what will be one of the most close tournaments of the season.
