
The Physical Education and Sports Service of the Universitat de València, supporting the university sport, organised this last weekend the Kendo Open and Clínic competitions of the Universitat de València. This is the thirteenth edition of the event that has become the annual date for amateurs and general public interested in participating or, simply, knowing the sport, philosophy and art of the Japanese fencing.
The event took place at the University Sports Pavilion (C/ Menéndez y Pelayo, 19) the 20 and 21 February and gathered more than 70 participants. Within the framework of an exchange university agreement between the Waseda University (Tokyo) and the Universitat de València, the Clínics were taught by professors and students of the Waseda University.
The male and female competitions were organised in small leagues from which the winners get classified for the final competitions. The Waseda University won the first position in both categories, while the members of the Universitat de València were classified for two semi-finals in the male category and for one in the female, showing the high level of the University athletes.
Vicente Soriano, responsible of the Kendo Open and Clínic was satisfied with the participation of this edition, that vas over 70 participants: “we achieved to maintain the participation numbers very close to the previous edition, which was the main objective of this year, trying to give continuity reducing the costs for students so they can enjoy the experience of this activity”.
