Jordi Vidal is the new Dean of the Faculty of Physics

Jordi Vidal is the new Dean of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Valencia He obtained 32 votes in favour and 6 blank votes. Vidal replaces Soledad Gandia.

Pascuala García, professor of the Department of Optics and Optometry and Vision Sciences, will be Vice-Dean of Studies and Academic Organization. Enric Valor, professor of the Department of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics, will be the Vice-Dean of Institutional Relations and Quality. Manel Perucho, professor of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics will be the secretary and director of Infrastructure.

Jordi Vidal studied Physics at the Universitat de València. He graduated in 1981 obtaining the Extraordinary Graduate Award and the Cañada Blanch Foundation Award. He became a doctor by the Universitat de València in 1986. He moved to the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA). There, he carried out post-doctoral work. He returned to the Universitat de València in 1989.

Currently, he is a professor of the Department of Theoretical Physics. He was secretary of this department and is its director at present day.  He has been the coordinator of the Physics Degree since 2013 and a member of the Teaching Body.

Jordi Vidal is a member of the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), the joint centre Universitat de València-CSIC, and the excellence centre Severo Ochoa. In the latter centre, he studies the phenomenology of elementary particles, particularly the study of the properties of leptons and quarks that may indicate evidence of new Physics, by means of the LHC and future particle accelerators.  He has numerous publications in international magazines and interventions in conferences. He has participated in more than 30 national and regional projects, as well as innovation programmes of the University. He has conducted research activities in several national and international centres (University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, University of California in Riverside, Universidad de la República in Uruguay...) where he has collaborated with specialists in his area of research.

He also collaborates in numerous activities of the Faculty such as the Physics Olympics, the Scientific Summer Campus of the International Excellency VLC/Campus and the Aula Experimenta. He is one of the people responsible of the Feria Experimenta de Demostraciones de Física y Tecnología.
