Name of the module: Introduction to research I: The research process- Research Lines
in Vision Sciences; ECTS Credits 3

COMPETENCIES AND CONCRETION IN LEARNING OUTCOMES

Competency 1: Possessing and comprehending knowledge that offers a base and opportunity of being original in the development and/or application of ideas, usually in a research context.
Competency 2: That the students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their capacity for problem resolution in new environments within wider contexts (or multidisciplinary contexts) related to their study area.
Competency 3: The students being able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of making judgments from an information that, being incomplete or limited, includes opinions on the social and ethic responsibility related to the implementation of their knowledge and judgment.
Competency 4:That the students know how to communicate clearly and straightforward their conclusions, and the knowledge and the ultimate reasons that support them, to specialised and non-specialised audiences
Competency 5: Possessing learning abilities which allow them to continue studying in a way that will be mostly self-directed and autonomous.
Competency 6: Knowing how to work in multi-disciplinary teams reproducing real contexts and providing and coordinating the acquired knowledge in other branches and parties.
Competency 7: Participating in debates and discussions, directing and coordinating them and summarizing and extracting the most relevant and accepted conclusions from them.
Competency 8: Using the different oral and written expression techniques, presentations, panels, etc. in order to communicate, knowledge, proposals and propositions.
Competency 9: Projecting knowledge on concrete problems; summarizing and extracting the most relevant arguments and conclusions for its resolution.
Competency 10: Knowing the widest sense of the different field of study associated to the Optometry and Vision Science.
Competency 11: Offering the suitable training for the incorporation to doctoral programmes suitable for the thematic lines of the Master’s Degree.
Competency 12: Planning and carrying out research projects which contribute to the production of Knowledge in the field of Optometry, transmitting the scientific knowledge by usual means.
Competency 13: Acquiring or strengthening skills in the communication of scientific outcomes, conclusions, knowledge or diagnoses, and of the conceptual frame in which they are based on, both in expert audiences or non-expert audiences, clearly and unambiguously.


TRAINING ACTIVITIES WITH THEIR CONTENT IN ECTS CREDITS, ITS TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND LEARNING, AND ITS RELATION WITH THE COMPETENCIES TO BE ACQUIRED BY STUDENTS
 

The training activities are geared towards knowledge and capacitation by students of those tools required by the scientific method. Thus, students will be taught and capacitated in the bibliographic citations system and in the veracity analysis in the publications found (1 credit); general regulations of scientific publications and how to make a scientific exhibition as well as in the knowledge and handling of the most common tools of audio-visual presentation (1 credit); ethics in publications and Optometry analysis (1credit).

Face-to-face teaching distribution of the 3 credits ECTS: Attendance to theory classes: 18 hours Attendance to seminars 5hours preparation and study of theoretical lesson: 29 hours attendance to tutorials 5 hours assessment tests preparation: 10 hours Exam: 2 hours

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Assessment through written examination, multiple choice or joint. (80%) Assessment of works developed jointly among one or several students (20%).

TRAINING ACTIVITIES WITH ITS CONTENT IN CREDITS ECTS, ITS LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY, ITS RELTION TO THE COMPETENCIES TO BE ACQUIRED BY STUDENTS

The training activities are geared towards knowledge and capacitation by students of those tools necessary for the statistical analysis in Optometry and Vision. Thus, students will be taught and capacitated in the tests used for data analysis in health sciences (1 credit); the most usual computer tools
(1 credit) and the design of samples for experiences (1 credit)
