Friday 24th January at 7 p.m. will take the roundtable El valencianisme de preguerra. Memòria privada de Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano (The pre-war valencianism. The private memoirs of Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano).

The act will count with the participation of Alaitz Zalbidea, author of the book Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano. Memòria privada i consciència valencianista (Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano. Private memoirs and Valencianist Consciousness); Maite Simón, PUV’s publisher; Albert Girona, Professor of Contemporary History of the UV; and Josep Daniel Climent, lecturer at UOC.

With the study of the diaries of Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano (1877-1971) and the family documentation research, the author takes us into the mind of the businessman from Sueca, an example of a patron, who was both an intellectual and a civic leader. Although the book is focused on the analysis of the manuscript Varia I (1934-1935), the author completes the study with the revision of several texts of the most important dietetic volumes to offer the reader a more complete vision of the contributions of Nicolau on the most recurrent aspects of his ideas: the connections between language and nation, the historical value of toponymy, the vision of Valencianism and the relations of the Valencian Country with Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Nicolau was one of the few members of the Valencian middle-class who showed loyalty to the language and the country at a time when the Valencian middle-class, although mostly Valencian-speaking, tended to adopt Spanish as the language of culture and relations.
