
Pere Puigdoménech, scientific communicator and winner of the XXV «Estudi General» European Award for the Dissemination of Science, convened by the University of Valencia and the Alzira City Council, with the collaboration of Edicions Bromera, participates this Tuesday, November 10, at 7 pm, in an online conversation with journalist Reyes Juan about his book Exploracions pel planeta Menjar, where he will analyse the challenges posed by feeding a world population that does not stop increasing.
The also president of the Biological Sciences Section of the Institute of Catalan Studies will participate live in the Jornades Culturals Explorant el planeta del menjar cycle, on the occasion of the “Ciutat d’Alzira” Literary Awards, which will be delivered this Friday, November 13.
This conference is part of the activities carried out on the occasion of the Mediterranean Researchers Night, on November 27, a set of dissemination activities organised by the twelve most representative research and scientific dissemination entities in the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community. The event also has the support of the Valencian Community Foundation for the Promotion of Higher Studies and the Department of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Valencian Government.
Pere Puigdoménech i Rosell has a doctorate in Biological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. After a stay at the Max-Planck Institute in Berlin, he joined the CSIC in 1981. He has directed the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona and the Centre for Research in Agrigenomics (CSIC-IRTA-UAB-UB) of Barcelona, the latter until 2013. He is a member of the Institute of Catalan Studies, of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, of the European Academy, of EMBO and a foreign member of several European academies. He has also chaired the Catalan Biology Society and the Ethics Committee of the CSIC. He has received the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit from the Catalonia Government (1992), the Catalan Foundation Research Award (2000), the COSCE Award for scientific dissemination (2013) and the Vicent Andrés Estellés Award of Scientific narrative (2006).
