Alzira’s City Council and Edicions Bromera, Alzira’s Literature Awards’ organisers, decided to turn the awarding gala into a solidary act due to the grave tragedy of the DANA. This yearly event bestows the Science Divulgation European Award “Estudi General”, rewarded with 12,000 euros and funded by Universitat de València (UV) The awarding gala was scheduled for Friday 8 November, but got called off. It will probably take place during December.

For those who would like to support the DANA victims, the event has a row 0 (a non-attendance ticket). The entire earning will be donated to Cruz Roja to help the victims. UV will announce the new date on this same website once it has been decided.

“The DANA shows our bonds, we keep sharing with the neighboring towns and hope that attendants to this 36 year old event join us in this initiative to support the victims”, says Alzira’s major Alfons Domínguez through an official statement from Alzira’s City Council and Edicions Bromera. According to the organisation, the top priority now is providing assitance to the affected communities and people, and so this cultural event turns into a solidary initiative focusing on supporting and helping in the recovery.

Rosa Donat, Universitat de Valéncia’s Vice-Principal of Innovation and Transference highlighted the commitment of this institution with the Valencian society and the DANA victims in Ribera Alta, Horta Sud, València, Foia de Bunyol and Plana d’Utiel-Requena. “Universitat de València has started its actions to help the victims with all its resources available and we did believe that the awards should be postponed and made a supporting act for the victims”, she stated.
