The University of Valencia among the top 100 higher education institutions worldwide in four subjects, according to the Shanghai ranking

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), or Shanghai Ranking by subjects, has ranked the University of Valencia (UV) among the world’s top 100 institutions in four areas: Remote Sensing (42nd position), Food Science and Technology (ranked 51-75), Tourism (51-75) and Business Administration (51-75). Of the 30 subjects analysed, the institution ranks first in Spain for Business Administration and Law, second for Remote Sensing, and third for Tourism. In twenty of the areas, it is among the top five in the country. At the regional level, the UV ranks first in seventeen areas.

The GRAS ranks the best institutions worldwide in 54 subjects across five fields: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. Published by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, the University of Valencia was evaluated in 30 of these subjects.

Nationally, in addition to the previously mentioned positions, the University of Valencia ranks in the 1-3 range for Law and Atmospheric Sciences, 2-3 for Public Health, 2-4 for Chemistry and Food Science and Technology, and 3-4 for Education and Physics.

Regionally, within the Valencian Community, the UV leads in areas such as Business Administration, Psychology, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Education, Earth Sciences, Public Health, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Remote Sensing, among others.

This ranking uses a set of indicators to measure university performance: Q1, number of publications in top-tier journals (first quartile); CNCI, normalised citation impact (ratio of citations of articles published in a subject to the average number of citations in that subject); IC, level of international collaboration; TOP, number of articles published in the most influential journals of a given discipline; and AWARD, full-time staff who have received significant awards.
