After a year of absence, the 2021 European Archaeology Conference returns with hundreds of activities scheduled throughout Europe. The University of Valencia (UV) is organising two events on Sunday 20 June for this reason: an open day at Cova de les Cendres (Moraira) and a guided tour of the Iberian site of Kelin (Caudete de las Fuentes).

In Spain, one of the regions where the European Archaeology Days is held is the Valencian Community, the activities are organised by the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History of the UV and guided by Consuelo Mata, professor of the department.

Thus, in Cova de les Cendres (Teulada-Moraira, Alicante) the visit will allow to know this cavity located on the Cap d’Or cliff, which was inhabited from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age. Excavations are currently being carried out, which will allow us to see what the archaeological work is like live.

The guided tour of the iberian city of Kelin (Caudete de las Fuentes, Valencia) will also provide access to its museum collection. Kelin is a city inhabited between the seventh century BC until its destruction and subsequent abandonment in the early first century BC. During this visit you will be able to appreciate its size and geographical location in the Requena-Utiel region. In the collection there are ceramic pieces of unique and considerable value within the Iberian culture.

In addition, as part of these conferences, University Professor David Quixal will also lead an excursion to the Iberian vilage of the Pico de los Ajos in Yátova on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20, as well as its museum collection, located in this same population.

The European Archaeology Days were born in France in 2019 and their aim is to increase the visibility of archaeology in the public sphere, as well as to promote the revaluation of its research and work. That is why, between June 18 and June 21, hundreds of activities are being held in more than 20 European countries, in a synchronised way, with the same goal.
