Rosa Aznar will participate in the 2nd International Meeting of the CYTED-Proinfant Project

On 20 and 21 November 2018, in Medellín (Colombia), after the “Simposio Internacional de Bacterias ácido lácticas y microorganismos probióticos”, the 2nd International Meeting of the CYTED-Proinfant Project “Alimentos vegetales con funcionalidad probiótica para poblaciones infantiles desnutridas” on which 73 researcher and 9 research groups from 7 Ibero-American countries (Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru).

The objective of this project is elaborating functional food from vegetal raw material coming from Latin-American countries by using indigenous microorganisms with the aim of favouring Ibero-American child populations with nutritional deficiencies.

The 2nd scientific reunion will constitute an intensive session conducted by the groups that participate in the strategic project ProInfant “Alimentos vegetales con funcionalidad probiótica para poblaciones infantiles desnutridas”, with the presence of the expert adviser on research about lactic acid bacteria, from both a point of view of their application to maintain fermented food quality and security, and their use as probiotics in the field of health. The main objective of the meeting is to update the results of the research conducted by each group, to determine the degree of goal fulfilment and to establish joint, bilateral activities for the next year, favouring, to the extent possible, the exchange of research staff in formation between the various institutions.

The Institution participating in the project ProInfant which hosts this meeting is the University of Antioquia, located in Medellin. The venue of the meeting is the School of Microbiology. The contribution of Rosa Aznar Novella, director of the Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT), is within the group A.
