To identify filamentous fungi and yeasts, the CECT combines phenotypic and molecular techniques. The latter are based on analysis of different regions of ribosomal DNA: sequencing the D1 / D2 domain of the 28S rRNA gene and ITS region (ITS1 and ITS2 intergenic spaces including the 5.8S rRNA gene). Additionally, depending on the group of microorganisms to be identified, several genes involved in maintaining cell metabolism (β -Tubulin and translation elongation factor 1α) are sequenced.
