Fourth-year student of the Degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, Universitat de Valencia, 2015 (third promotion) One of the most difficult decisions for students to make is to choose which degree they are going to study. It involves a really important decision, without doubt, for in most cases it determines the professional future of the people, so we must be accurate in the choosing. In my case, I had always been clear about studying something related to health sciences. I was always told to study “Medicine”, but eventually I opted for Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences in the UV, and I don’t regret about my choosing. The four years are developed in an atmosphere where effort ant time of dedication are important, but it is worthwhile. The teaching staff, in most cases, are a great support and they are always willing to collaborate. The quality of the knowledge acquired is impressive, not only current and advanced material is taught but also classes are given in a practical approach, in an atmosphere that introduces us to research, since a great part of the teaching staff are researchers. The practice are not scarce and the lesson taught in the classroom is moved to the lab, we are even taught how to work with brain stem cells and prepare samples for the electronic microscope. Definitely, this degree provides us a good basis on which to keep on researching. “Creativity and the critical knowledge of science are strengthen” It fulfils all the objectives proposed, covering from the biochemistry to the aspects of application thereof, that is, biomedicine.
