THE SIERRA DE UTIEL EXHIBITION: A NATURAL, LANDSCAPE AND CULTURAL SPACE TO PRESERVE

On October 18, the exhibition "Sierra de Utiel: a natural, landscape and cultural space to preserve" was inaugurated at the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia, which will remain in the first floor lobby until February 10. The exhibition, of an informative nature, brings us closer to this mountainous formation in the interior of the Valencian Community through six thematic blocks: its geographical characteristics, its biodiversity, its historical evolution, the cultural heritage it houses, the landscape value it holds, and of course, the current dangers it suffers from wind turbine projects.

The opening ceremony was attended by Josep Montesinos i Martínez, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and History; Rosa Pardo Marín, General Director of Territorial Policy and Landscape of the Generalitat Valenciana; Emilio Iranzo García, Director of the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes; María Dolores Pitarch Garrido, Delegate of the Rector of the University of Valencia for the University and Society Program of the Office of the Vice President for Culture and Society and Santiago Ponce Junquero, President of the Serratilla Cultural Association, organizer of the exhibition.

The necessary energy transition while respecting the natural and landscape heritage of our territory and the criticism of the concentration of macro-projects in rural areas, generally without regard to the well-being and opinion of its inhabitants, focused the interventions on the opening ceremony. The exhibition that coincides with the one at the La Nau Cultural Center, 'Valencia 1972: Towards the monster city', aims to raise awareness among Valencian society and especially the new generations of the need to respect and protect the natural heritage against the abuses of the speculative projects generated around renewable energy.

The Faculty of Geography and History thus supports the allegations presented by the Department of Prehistory, Archeology and Ancient History of the University of Valencia against the wind plan for zone 9. Renewable yes, but not like that.

(the sample will be until February 1)
