Open registration Erasmus in the territory: Cullera – Albufera: rice cultivation

Trip 28th September

The Universitat de València, by means of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Society and the Office of the Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation, continues the programme Erasmus in the Territory. In the 7th edition, cultural routes have been organised to visit some Valencian towns that are well-known because of their culture and heritage.

These routes are intended for Erasmus students of the UV for the academic course 2019-2020. Routes, planned in collaboration with the corresponding town councils, are intended to enlighten Erasmus students about the economic, cultural and landscape values of Valencia.

Cullera – Albufera: rice cultivation

Cullera is one of the main touristic destinations of the Spanish coast. It offers a rich gastronomy based on rice-growing and a great historic heritage that includes its castle, which was built in the 9th century.

The Albufera is a natural space where the rivers Xúquer and Túria flow into. It has an impressive beauty and has habitats of great environmental importance.

It encompasses an area of 21,000 hectares and constitutes one of the most important wetlands of our country and the Mediterranean Basin. It is a Natural Park since 1986 and was declared “Special Zone of Bird Protection” in 1989.

The area of the lake has been reduced with the passage of centuries, as rice-growing spread.
