Academic, scientific or professional interest: The professional working area of the optometrist is increasingly widespread and the training needs and professional retraining in new methodologies and technologies are already essential. The Optometry is a scientific branch of wide clinic application that has seen a stunning growing in recent years, with the opening of new ways of research and clinic application, related to the new techniques of compensation and analyses of refractive errors. The optometrist has widened seen his clinic application field to the previous analysis and monitoring of the refractive surgery, the new types of compensation by means of contact lenses, the treatments of advanced visual therapy or the applications to the psycho-physical methodologies for the ophthalmologic diagnosis. In addition, we must add that the aging population opens a series of visual problems where the intervention of the optometrist will be fundamental, both in its treatment and primary attention. With these Master’s studies a high training will be obtained for the professional specialisation in different areas of the optometry, such as the geriatric optometry, visual therapies or the optometric aspects of the refractive surgery, among others. The studies will prepare in addition for taking on research tasks both in the area of Vision Sciences and the applied clinic research. For this reason, the orientation is academic and mixed, both for training for specialized professional practice and for training for research.
