Seminar “Acoustic sensors for material characterisation and biosensors development”

As a training activity within the 4th year subject “Sensors and Virtual Instrumentation” of the Degree in Telecommunications Electronic Engineering, the Dr María Isabel Rocha Gaso of the company AWSensors S. L. will give a Technical Presentation on “Acoustic sensors for material characterisation and biosensors development”.

Acoustic sensors, such as the popularly known Quartz Crystal Microbalances (QCM), have become very powerful tools for the study of materials and molecular interactions. The range of applications of these sensors is very wide and varied, ranging from space research to virology. This is significant, keeping in mind that the technique is really simple, having as a core a quartz piezoelectric sensor, which is capable of measuring with great sensitivity the changes that occur on its surface. This seminar will present the history of this technique, the principles of operation and its applications giving some examples in the areas of material characterisation and biosensors.

Day: Wednesday 11 March, 3 p.m. Place: Classroom 4.1.1, ETSE-UV.
