Academic, scientific or professional interest: A close look allows us to discover that History, in its various specialities, has considerable social prestige today. In fact, large social groups and communities find their origins in different historical periods and, with them, an essential element of their historical identity. And there is no doubt about the presence of the classical heritage of Greco-Roman culture, which has always been greatly valued, especially in recent years. Indeed, the constitution of the European Union has intensified the search for common roots in the West, whose cultural background is found in Greece and the political one in Rome. Numerous conferences, seminars, publications, etc., as well as the increase in value of the archaeological heritage of this time, have strengthened in recent years the consolidation and revitalisation of the legacy of the Classical World. The historical ties that bind us to those areas that were part of the classical world need to be considered as the undeniable links with the territories that once formed the Crown of Aragon: Aragon, Valencia, Catalonia and Mallorca, whose mere enumeration clearly conveys that they are historical units formed in the medieval period and with a common past, institutionally manifested in the existence of the Crown of Aragon. These territories (to which we would need to add others such as Sicily, Naples, Sardinia and Roussillon) are obviously interesting for the development of research on medieval history of the Crown of Aragon and its current political, social and cultural institutions, fully incorporated in European culture from the perspective of the historical formation of the peoples of Europe, which is highlighted through the funding of scientific activities (conferences, meetings, celebrations), publications, archaeological excavations, heritage restorations and many more cultural actions. All these considerations can be extended to modern history, a stage which, after setting its roots in the Middle Ages, opens to the contemporary world to provide the key explanations that answer the questions faced by the world today.
