The Wellbased project held a consortium meeting on February 7th and 8th in Edirne, Turkey, where IRTIC's privacy and security team, integrated in LISITT, continued to contribute to the deployment of the project. In this context, from the legal point of view, Ricard Martínez and Alma Virto presented the results achieved by the various partners in ensuring the processing of personal data under the parameters established by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the high ethical standards of research in the field of health.

Francisco Soriano, the team's security expert, continued with the task of consolidating the framework of this essential value to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability, as well as the resilience of information systems.

Wellbased is a European project, led by Las Naves, which aims to study the link between energy poverty and health problems of people and contribute to the future definition of public policies in these matters. To this end, data is collected from participants who wish to contribute to the analysis.

Learning from data, intervening in environments of energy vulnerability and in different countries, requires a firm commitment to guaranteeing the rights of the people who voluntarily decide to be the subjects of the research.

This is a project that involves the collection of special categories of data -basic and regular health data of the participants-, measuring energy consumption and sensorization of homes, and direct interactions with participants and interventions. This will generate data sets that will provide answers capable of guiding local policies in this area.

Since its design, Wellbased has defined a deep commitment to guaranteeing the rights of individuals and, particularly, their fundamental right to data protection and privacy. To this end, various policies focused on the risk approach proposed by GDPR have been implemented, which will culminate in the future with the generation of anonymized data sets that will be susceptible to reuse.

In the final stretch of the project, in addition to the implementation of the information systems in the research teams and local treatment managers, the audit of the processes and the collection of lessons learned will be addressed. In this sense and in the context of the Urban Health Cluster in which Wellbased is integrated, IRTIC deploys an analysis on the perception and conditions for GDPR compliance at a trans-European level, and the challenges in the construction of data spaces at the municipal level.
