The European Project «eID4Spain: Connecting Regional and Local Administrations to Spanish eIDAS Node» (INEA/CEF/ICT/A2018/1633095), co-financed by the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility, has been successfully concluded. The initiative has connected the public electronic services of four Spanish local and regional administrations (Junta de Extremadura, Diputación de Ciudad Real, Diputació de València and Ayuntamiento de Rivas Vaciamadrid) to the Spanish eIDAS node, via Cl@ve 2.0, for enabling cross-border authentication in compliance with the eIDAS Regulation.

Coordinated by the University of Valencia through the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC), the project has had the participation of Leading Management Technology S. L., Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Junta de Extremadura, Diputación Provincial de Ciudad Real, Diputació de València, Guadaltel S.A. and Ayuntamiento de Rivas Vaciamadrid.

The action will help Spain to meet the requirements of the eIDAS Regulation and facilitate access to Spanish electronic public services for all EU citizens and businesses that use their national electronic ID card, something that will ensure cross-border mobility and support and strengthen the digital single market. With the completion of the initiative, the electronic services offered by the four public entities will be available in the production environment for cross-border authentication (via eIDAS).

Thanks to this action, European citizens that want to carry out procedures through the e-Government offices of the administrations involved in the project, will be able to identify themselves digitally with their certificates issued in their home countries. Local portals will be able to authenticate the identity of citizens using the eIDAS nodes originally and will give local validity to their personal identity.
