The simulation technology developed in the Laboratory for Simulation and Modeling (LSYM) of the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) has reached future tractor operators in Andalusia and Valencian Community. The models developed by the group have been marketed, through ESAM Tecnología, in 27 professional schools in each region and, thanks to them, students will be able to train in order to learn how to use machinery and prevent risks.

Specifically, 18 simulators have been assigned to Andalusia and 9 to the Valencian Community. This will make it possible to practice with examples that could not be carried out with real machinery.

The use of a machine for training, such as a port crane, implies a cost as it is occupied and not used for its normal tasks. Simulators provide a solution to train qualified personnel adapted to the corresponding tools without dedicating the resources used in real scenarios.

What is more, even if it did not involve such a cost, simulators allow preparation that enriches training, and which would be risky to carry out in real life: for example, they allow practice with inclined ramps, potholes, holding loads from great heights and even taking into account other forklift trucks and virtual pedestrians. Therefore, the use of simulators strengthens training, beyond the economic cost.

LSYM's research facilitates such tasks. The group has designed simulators focused on construction and civil engineering machines, such as excavators, tractors and cranes. In addition to its port side, it also specialises in mining, with examples such as the mining truck and bulldozer simulator.

Its models are used all over the world, from the Port of Valencia or Vigo to South America, among other places. You can consult the group's work in this link and visit its website: http://lsym.uv.es
