The SILKNOW project, coordinated by a team formed by members of the ARTEC group of the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) and the Department of History of Art of the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia (UV), received the Europa Nostra Grand Prix for Innovation on Monday 26 September. The prize is added to the Europa Nostra Award in the category of research that representatives of the initiative had gone to Prague to collect at the event of the organisation.

The initiative has been consolidated into a digital repository, ADASilk, with access to around 40,000 entries on objects; weaving techniques, including those no longer in use; materials and decorative motifs linked to silk; spatiotemporal maps that place them on specific dates and places; and a virtual loom that reproduces the internal structure of the weavings.

The teams representing the project went to the Prague State Opera for the European Heritage Awards celebration, part of the European Summit on Cultural Heritage 2022, which took place from 25 to 27 September, to collect the already proclaimed Europa Nostra Award for Research. The surprise of the evening came when it was announced that, in addition to this prize, they had been awarded the Grand Prix for Innovation, unveiled at the same event and valued at 10,000 euros.

Along with the Universitat de València, the entities Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique - Lyon 2, Universita Degli Studi di Palermo, GARIN 1820 S.A., Institut Jozef Stefan, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universitaet Hannover, Monkeyfab, EURECOM, and the Instituto Cervantes have participated in SILKNOW. The initiative was launched in April 2018 and positively assessed by the European Commission in October 2021.

After this succession of successes, the representative of SILKNOW on the IRTIC side, Cristina Portalés, and on the side of the Department of History of Art of the Faculty of Geography and History, Ester Alba, met at the Science Park of the UV to explain the characteristics of the project. The video of the interview will be published soon.
