Description:

The University of Valencia will be present across the Valencian territory also in 2021 thanks to the programme "Universitats Estacionals", which has remained faithful at all times to the Valencian society, taking the scientific production of the UV to a total of 20 venues spread throughout the province of Valencia. In this programme, promoted by the Vice-Principal Office for Territorial Projection and Society, the topics of the conferences have been organised according to the demands of every town and city to make them as attractive and interesting as possible. These are "seasonal" events which, in some cases, such as the one in Ontinyent, celebrates their eleventh edition.

DAY: 29th april 2021

TITLE: A LOOK AT HERITAGE AND TOURISM UNDER THE SEA

This year we present the second edition of the Seasonal University of Cullera (UEC), result of the ongoing collaboration between the University of Valencia, the city of Cullera, the Diputación de Valencia (provincial government of Valencia) and Caixa Popular. The focus of this edition is underwater archaeological heritage as a driver of tourism in Cullera and its region. Tourism diversification as a key strategy for the reactivation of consolidated coastal destinations is, more than an option, a necessity, and Cullera is no exception.

The underwater heritage has been recognised by the UNESCO Convention of 2001 as a heritage requiring better protection, knowledge, enhancement and social return. It is an extremely rich heritage, fragile and vulnerable, but capable of promoting alternative tourism to a more traditional one, such as sun and beach tourism, which is already well established there. Cullera has a history under the sea deserving to be discovered. Diagnosis and recovery of these innate and unique resources allows the development of tourism products that can be articulated as new products able to diversify.

For registered people it will be possible to attend the conference in person until the auditorium capacity is reached (limited by COVID mesures); but it will also be possible online, through a link that will be enabled minutes before the conference starts (link to streaming). All registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
