Solidarity with the victims of the earthquake in Colombia

The earthquake caused more than 280 mortal victims and more than 3,900 injured people, as well as extended property damage. Plenty of families lost their homes and there is still people waiting for news on their loved ones. Pereira and Cali were two of the cities most affected, with collapsed buildings and houses, damaged hospitals and affectations in basic services. Emergency teams continue to work in research, rescue, and aid to the affected population.

On behalf of the Universitat de València, we would like to offer our condolences to the families of the victims and share our solidarity with the people affected and the entire Colombian society.

We would also like to express our special support for the Colombian university community and the universities and academic institutions in the affected areas. Our thoughts are especially with the Colombians who study, research and work at the Universitat de València and who are experiencing these worrying times for their families, friends and loved ones.

Due to this emergency, as done with the emergency of Venezuela, the Universitat de València has started a solidarity campaign of donations to attribute help to the affected people by the earthquakes.

We would like to call on to the entire university community —faculty, research staff, technical, management, administration and service staff and student body— in order to make their solidarity effective for the people affected.

In order to issue the corresponding donation certificate, an email must be sent to comptabilitat@uv.es providing the information of the donor.

The collected quantities will be use to provide support to NGDOs present in the affected areas, with the purpose of aiding the victims and those affected by the earthquake.

The donations made to the Universitat de València are entitled to tax deductions under the Law 49/2002, on 23 December, about the tax system of entities without lucrative purposes or tax incentives for art patronages, modified by the Real Decreto Law 6/2023, on 19 December.

In general:
Natural person (IRPF):
•⁠ ⁠80 % of tax deduction for the first €250 donated.
•⁠ ⁠40 % of quantities exceeding €250.
•⁠ ⁠45 % of any excess given to the same entity during almost the two previous consecutive exercises for the same or superior amount.

The authorised donation certificates can be issued before the start of the income tax campaign for the corresponding year.
