The women’s rowing team of the Universitat de València step up on the second crate of the podium, proclaiming itself the runner-up of the Regional Championship of University Sports, held last week at the Real Club Regatas of Alicante.

The organization of the competition was carried out by the University of Alicante and the Universitat de València attended the event represented by its women’s team, formed by nine sportswomen and led by their coach María Miñana. "We had people on board who had been training for just over a week... the regatta was much better than we expected and we saw that in the long run we ran quite a lot. The truth is that we are very happy with the result, it had a feeling of a first place”, says Miñana.

The women's ranking had a total of three participating universities. First place went to the University of Alicante, second place to the Universitat de València and third place to the Universitat Politècnica de València.

The University of Alicante showed its superiority in the regatta, “it is true that they gained a long time, because they have very prepared people," highlights Miñana. But at the same time, the competition also shone because of the rivalry between the two Valencian universities, a second place decided in the last sprint. "The truth is that it was a very nice race because we were all on par", tells the UV coach.

In the general classification by teams, the Universitat de València was in fourth place.

The third year of competition for the UV

This is the third year in competition for the rowing team of the Universitat de València and, as Miñana points out, their goal is to work for regularity and continue climbing. The UV women's rowing team, in its three years of competition accumulates a fourth place (first year), a third (second year) and a second place (third year).

"We are going to try to get a little better project for next year," says Miñana, because all eyes are on forming the rowing school for the next course, "so people can train and compete at a little higher level.

So far, there has not been a Spanish University Championship in these three years, but Miñana already anticipates that is it expected that the national championship will be held in Seville in 2021, "with more reasons to form the team with more time and be able to have a good basis and aspire to bigger results, as it is the Spanish Championship".
