Barely landed from Brussels, where the company starred last week in the closing events of the 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus+ Programme for the European Commission, the European theatre project of the Universitat de València has starred again in the Awards Gala of the VII National University Theatre Festival that took place on Monday 19, at the headquarters of the SGAE of the Palacio Longoria in Madrid, organized by the Spanish Federation of University Theatre.

The university company, which started with eight nominations, has won the Award for Best Spanish Play in 2022 and the award for Best Original Play for the production of 'El desig de la joventut’, by the Universitat de València and the Culture Area of the Valencian Provincial Council.

The Escena Erasmus shows deal with the reality of today's Europe with a critical vision, involving the audience in their reflections. This year's performance, written by authors Daniel Tormo, Guada Sáez, Maribel Bayona, Anna Marí and Mohamed Dourasse, and directed by Josep Valero, reflects on youth through comedy and emotions in the European Year of Youth.

The play was presented last summer and completed three touring programmes, 'Les Europes Menudes', of the Valencian Provincial Council; the 'Gira M'Importa' of the IVAJ and the 'Gira Avant' of the Valencian Council’s Presidency, which toured 29 towns of the Valencian territory and which ended a few days ago in the Belgian capital.

Escena Erasmus was represented at the event in Madrid by the directors of the project, Daniel Tormo, Josep Valero and Anna Marí; the actress Sara Torró; the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society of the UV, Ester Alba; the Vice-Principal for Internationalisation and Multilingualism of the UV, Carlos Padilla; and the head of section for Implementation and Design of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission, Marta Gutiérrez

These recognitions are added to the rich list of achievements of the Valencian university theatre group, which in 2021 received the Joan Lluís Vives Distinction from the Generalitat for the Valencian contribution to the construction of Europe.

Escena Erasmus of the Universitat de València was European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2011 of the European Parliament and Honourable Mention for the promotion of the Arts and heritage of the European League of Associations of Performing Arts Companies in 2018.
