On Tuesday 3rd December, the Aula Magna of La Nau Centre Cultural hosted the book launching De la escritura como resistencia (Of writing as resistance), organised by the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives. This essay, which is intended as a tribute to the emeritus professor of the Universitat de València Jenaro Talens, is published by a group of people who, over the years, have collaborated with this great Professor.

Jenaro Talens himself and the four editors of the work participated in the launching of this book: Giulia Colaizzi, Manuel de la Fuente and Santiago Renard, Professors in Audiovisual Communication at the Universitat de València; and Santos Zunzunegui, emeritus Professor at the University of the Basque Country.

Jenaro Talnes is a poet, essayist and translator born in Tarifa (Cadiz) who has developed much of his professional career at the Universitat de València, where he held, from 1968 until the late 90s, the Chairs of Spanish Literature, Literary Theory and Audiovisual Communication. In addition to writing famous essays and poetry books, he has also translated into Spanish classics by Samuel Beckett, Herman Hesse, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, William Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, among other famous writers.

De la escritura como resistencia (Of writing as resistance) is a tribute to Jenaro Talens, whose professional career is marked by plurality, consistent and coherent intellectual curiosity and permanent interlocution. This volume brings together, concretely, 69 contributions by Talens, including critical readings of poetic texts, theoretical reflections on literature, theatre, image and the world of communication that are intertwined with his passion for the translation of poetry from the most specifically visual perspective.  The anthology turns out to be a choral testimony of a history that is, at the same time, singular, personal and collective.

The Escola de Pensament Lluís Vives is a cultural project, promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport and with the management of the General Foundation of the Universitat de València, which is shaped as a space for reflection and participatory and critical debate on current issues.  The Escola has the participation of other actors from public administration and civil society:  Presidency of the Generalitat, Valencia City Council, Regional Department of Transparency and Education, Research, Culture and Sport, Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, Alfons el Magnànim Institute, Escola Europea d’Humanitats and Caixa Popular.
