The concert will be dedicated exclusively to this work and will function as a closing of the course The power of music to evoke emotions, a training programme of the Musical Activities Area of General Foundation of the Universitat de València. They pretend to show that “we are able to create in our mind a visual world based on musical ideas”, explains Hilari García.

It is a programmatical genre, and the Fantastic Symphony of Berlioz is a paradigmatic example of this music. Pieces of music of programmatic nature “are based on an extramusical fact. Therefore, it is important to know external content that the music causes for a better intellectual comprehension. Even though only music for the aural pleasure is enough to evoke, insinuate or suggest”, adds.

Descriptive or programmatic music is characterized by the narrative that goes with it. By this way, Hilari Garcia will introduce the composition locating the auditory in the previously story to the Symphony, musical ideas originated from it and the treatment that will be developed through the concert “to enable the public to get the message of behind the music”, points.

Berlioz composed the Fantastic Symphony in 1830, inspired by a famous Shakespearean actress from whom he he fell deeply in love. He has dedicated it to the tsar Nicholas of Russian. The composition is divided into five movements: Daydreams and Passions, A ball, Scene in the country, Scene in the country y Dream of a witches' Sabbath.

Hector Berlioz was born in France in 1803 and stood out in the Romanticism. His music impacted in an extraordinary manner in his epoch, arriving to be part of an important romantic trirumvirate together with Victor Hugo and Eugène Delacroix.

Hilari Garcia Gázquez has sought to recover the intense emotions that Berlioz experimented and delving into the sensations that transfers the programmatical genre through a new course with two seasons: the first with three workshops in the Cultural Centre La Nau last 5th. They have consisted in a presentation, from different points of view, of the factors external to the music involved in the creation of a musical world, and how the musical fact acts and moves with help of sound resources. The second will take place at the Palau de la Música of Valencia this Thursday 17th, with the concert From text to music: Fantastic Symphony of Hector Berlioz, opened to all public, and students of the course to enjoy the example of programmatical music in live.

This course has been organised in collaboration with Cefire of Specific Artistic-expressive Area. Given by professors of Cefire and the director of the Orchestra of the University, Hilari García, also supported by the Valencian Department of Education, Research, Culture and Sport, and the Palau de la Música of Valencia.
