La Nau hosts an event on contemporary dance as part of the program ¨España en libertad. 50 años’ ‘Spain in freedom. 50 years’.

The Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de Valencia this Saturday March 28, is hosting an event 'Looking ahead and keeping your roots in the ground', an idea that is centered on the reflection on contemporary dance in Spain and its evolution from XX century to the present. This is part of the series of events ‘Plazas y Performances¨ (Places and Performances), can register for the program via new website of ¨España en libertd 50 años más. ¨an initiative promoted by the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory.
The event will consist of different sessions throughout the day at La Nau. In the morning (12:00-14:00) and in the afternoon (16:00-18:30) a professional meeting will be held, bringing together creators and specialists from different generations to discuss the development of contemporary dance in Spain, as well as its current situation.
The discussion will especially focus on Valencia's role in this field, its relevance in the performing arts, particularly the generations of female creators who contributed to the consolidation of contemporary dance in Spain during the 1980s and 1990s, especially since the creation of the Dansa València festival in 1988, and the sector's transformation processes. The activity was organized in collaboration with the Universitat´s cultural centers.
Premiere in el Caustro de la Nau with Mónica Valenciana y María Muñoz
At 7.15pm the Caustro of the Universitat de Valencia, in the Cultural Centre La Nau will host the special momnet of the event: The premier of the ‘QUE SI PUÒ FARE, QUE SI PUÒ DIRE, project and interpretation of Mónica Valenciana and María Muñoz, two fundamental figures of the contemporary dance in our country. It will feature the participation of the Coro Faraig (Faraig Choir) (eight mixed voices) under the direction of Christian Roca, and proposes a dialogue between memory, body and present from an ethical and artistic perspective.
The event will begin starting at 9.15pm in El Consulado where will be presented a dance video exhibition - with materials provided by the participants- and a festive gathering open to attendees.
The event will be attended by figures from the world of dance such as Àngels Margerit, Olga Mesa, Rosángeles Valls, Elena Córdoba, Gracel Meneu, from institutions linked to dance, such as the director of the Mercat de les Flors.
A proposal focusing on memory and the performing arts
The performance is a part of the celebration of the 50 years of ¨España en libertad¨, an initiative promoted by the Government of Spain through Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, which commemorates the five decades that have passed since the beginning of the democratic process in our country. The main objectives of ¨España en libertad. 50 años¨ are to raise awareness of Spain´s recent past, especially in dictatorship and the transition to democracy; to commemorate the progress we have made as a country in recent decades and to celebrate and pay tribute to that anonymous citizens who made it possible; and to create spaces for discussion and dialogue, to learn, debate and develop critical thinking, as well as to bring the past into the present and to colectively imagine what future we want.
