‘Mestres valencianes republicanes’, by Publicacions de la Universitat de València, one of the bestsellers of the Plaça del Llibre

'Mestres valencianes republicanes', published by Publicacions de la Universitat de València, has been a bestseller in the 8th edition of the Plaça del Llibre of València. Publicacions de la Universitat de València, the publishing company of the academic institution, has set up several activities that brought together audiences of different profiles and ages.

Mestres valencianes republicanes was launched the opening day, by the professor M.ª Carmen Agulló, from the Universitat de València. The work tells the story and experiences of four professors and a schoolteacher who are committed to the republican education policy and who worked in Valencian regions for years. The author was accompanied by Blanca Juan, the book's coauthor, and Adela Costa, a teacher from the Escuela Normal de Maestras de Valencia (Normal School of Teachers of Valencia). The role of women in the evolution of education played a leading role during the presentation. In addition, this book also stood out during this edition for being among the 10 bestsellers during the whole fair. 

On the same day, Publicacions de la Universitat de València was awarded the Premio a la Trayectoria Editorial, a publishing award, the year of its centenary. The prize was presented by the Full Foundation and was received by its editor, Teresa Ferrer, who highlighted the task of opening up to social reality, trying to meet the citizen's concerns and bringing research and high-quality dissemination closer to their interests. Other authors were also recognised by the Plaça del Llibre Awards 2020: the playwright Manuel Molins, who received the literary career award Premio a la Trayectoria Literaria, and the singer-songwriter Eva Dénia, who was awarded the Premio Difusión (Dissemination Award). 

On the second day of the Plaça del Llibre, the Valencian philosopher, poet and essayist Antoni Defez, who was accompanied by Vicente Sanfélix, professor at the Universitat de València, launched Els arbres de BerkeleyIn this work, number 50 of the collection "Assaig", the author tackles the analysis of a classic philosophical problem: how to guarantee that there is a world outside our minds, including references to Hobbes, Descartes, Locke, Hume or Berkeley. 

The last event in which PUV took part were the talks organised by six women that are part of publishing houses of the Valencian Community to reflect on the university publisher and the value that this kind of publisher provides to the book sector. The talks counted on the presence of Maite Simón, editor-in-chief of Publicacions de la Universitat de València, and Carme Pinyana, from the Servei de Comunicació i Publicacions of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón.

Among the most outstanding books that the audience found on Publicacions de la Universitat de València's stand, it should be mentioned the third edition of Els parlars valencians, by Vicent Beltrán and Carles Segura-Llopes; La ciència a taula, monograph of the journal Mètode which contains a compilation of articles by Fernando Sapiña and was awarded for the "Best book on Natural and Applied Sciences" on the university edition of Joan Lluís Vives awards; and the book on law Llengua i estat, by Vicenta Tasa Fuster, which reflects on the linguistic diversity of Spain.
