Quan dormen els arbres

The exhibition “Quan dormen els arbres” is formed by photographies of Lluís Ibàñez and is organised by Ateneu de Natura. It has opened its gates in the Estufa Freda of the Botanical Garden. Those who attend the inauguration of the exhibition will have the opportunity of enjoying “Quan dorm el Botànic”. It is a night trip to the Botanical Garden of the Universitat de València under the moonlight. These are two proposals in which the silence prevails because of the dominating respect and admiration to the real protagonists: the trees.

When the trees sleep, most beings imitate them and the few that remain awake respect their peacefulness. The trees sleep and rest of the intense task: the splendid altruism that they gift us during the day and that many times we forger and don’t value. Nearby, the photographer Lluís Ibàñez observes them.

The result of his work is what we will be able to contemplate in this exhibition, in which Ibàñez and Ateneu de Natura try to share their regard for the natural heritage and honour the well-deserved rest of such valuable companions.  We will find photographies of the juniper of Ginero (Juniperus oxycedrus), the pine tree of Salpasser  (Pinus nigra subsp. Salzmanni), the walnut tree of mas de Pau (Juglans regia) or the Faig Pare (Fagus sylvatica), among other trees with a proper name. In fact, the exhibition is a selection of the works of the project Arbres amb nom propi that the very same author created so that people reflected about landscapes and the interaction between people and the environment. The beauty of the images of the trees will certainly make us travel to a place where people meet their dreams.

Lluís Ibàñez is from Benicarló and has been interested in photography for years. He claims that, as a scholar in landscapes, he feels especially committed with his territory (the northern region of Castellón), where he has developed different projects. Ateneu de Natura is a scientific association that promotes the preservation of the nature in the fields of palaeontology, zoology, botany and ecology.

The exhibition Quan dormen els arbres will be opened to the public from the 25th September to the 18th November in the Estufa Freda of the Botanical Garden. It has been organised by the Botanical garden of the Universitat de València and the Ateneu de Natura. Other organisms that have also collaborated in the sample are the Regional Ministry of Education, Research, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Government.
