The 17th Edition of Biology Olympiad gathers about 500 participants from the Valencian Community

A total of 245 second-year secondary school students of biology from 60 public and private centres of the province of Valencia will participate in the regional stage of the 17th Biology Olympiad. The exam is organised by the Faculty of Biological Sciences and the Delegation for University Integration and will be held on Friday, 21st February.

The test will take place in Alicante with 144 participants, Castellón with 109 participants, and Valencia with 245 participants - all at the same time - thus, gathering a total of 498 students (68.5% girls and 31,5% boys) of the Valencian Community. This is one of the highest rate of student participation in the Olympiad as compared to other Spanish autonomous communities. 

The exam in Valencia will start at 16:00 in interfaculty lecture rooms (Aulario Interfacultativo) of Burjassot-Paterna Campus of the Universitat de València.

The exam is anonymous and consists in a single test on the matter of biology studied during the first and second years of the secondary school. It will include 100 multiple choice questions on the aforementioned topics.

The evaluating academic committee includes professors of the Faculty of Biology, who will choose the finalists and the winners of the Biology Olympiad in Valencia.

The winners of the Biology Olympiad in Valencia will go on to participate in the national stage of the contest, which will take place in Bilbao, in the University of the Basque Country, from 26th to 29th of March, 2020. 

Out of all participants in the national stage of the Olympiad, eight best students will be chosen to represent Spain on an international level. These students will undergo a week of specific training - both theoretical and practical - to later participate in the international stage of the contest. 

Four first-prize winners will represent Spain at the 31st International Biology Olympiad that will take place in July in Nagasaki, Japan.

Four second-prize winners will represent Spain at the 14th Ibero-American Biology Olympiad that will take place in September in Costa Rica.

2020 Biology Olympiads are organised in collaboration with Biologist Association of the Valencian Community and the Biology Olympiad Association of Spain.
