On 2, 3 and 4 April, the UNESCO Chair at the Universitat de València and the Entities Board of Solidarity with the Immigrants organised the 25th Conference on 'Immigration, Diversity and Democracy'. All sessions will begin at 7 p.m. in the wall room of the Rector Peset Hall of Residence.

These days celebrate 25 years of celebration, ratifying the consolidation of this forum for debate between academia and civic organizations on issues in the focus of social space.

The conference will open tomorrow, Tuesday, with an intervention by Rosario Polito, representing the Entities Board of Solidarity with the Immigrants, which will serve to take stock and as a reminder of the work developed over these 25 years by the different coordinators who have led the platform over the past decades, such as Vicen Sanz, Francisco Torres and Albert Mora.

With 16 participating entities (such as Entrepobles, Ca Revolta, Médicos del Mundo, etc. and the unions CC.OO and UGT) the Entities Board represents the struggle of a civic movement for the rights of migrants, with diverse social realities, in a globalised world but suffering the same situations of exclusion and integration difficulties in our society.

The meeting will serve as a space for social awareness and to create work synergies between the academic world and the fabric of humanitarian civic entities, giving voice to teachers, research staff, aid workers, intellectuals and social agents.

As the current coordinator of the Entities Board, Victoria Porras, explained: "We will deal with special interest with the issues that have been most topical this year in the social debate, such as the current criminalization that is suffering solidarity or trafficking and smuggling. In addition, other problems that migrants suffer systematically will also be discussed, such as the situation of lack of protection of unaccompanied minors or the law on foreigners and their bureaucracy when it comes to obtaining a residence permit.

To deal with these issues, experts such as lawyers Pilar Serrano, Carmen Barera and Celia Garzón, who are promoting the campaign against the closure of the CIES or qualified personnel from the Don Bosco Foundation in Córdoba, will take part.

The Vice-rectorate for Internationalisation and Cooperation has entrusted the UNESCO Chair and the  Àrea de Cooperació at the Universitat de València with the organisation of these conferences with the collaboration of the Rector Peset Hall of Residence
