The Universitat de València, through the Development Studies UNESCO´s Chair and the University Institute of Educational Creativity and Innovation, organises a cycle of conferences in September, October and November that will focus on the inclusive and peaceful societies from memory. All Tuesdays from 19 September, researchers and social actors will analyse the role played by the memory to reconstruct peaceful societies in the Faculties of Social Sciences and Teacher Training (Tarongers Campus).

The following 19th September, it will be inaugurated the cycle of conferences ‘Memoria y Paz – Construir sociedades pacíficas e inclusivas a partir de la memoria’ (Memory and peace - Building peaceful and inclusive societies from memory). It is organised by the University Institute of Educational Creativity and Innovation and the Development Studies UNESCO´s Chair of the Universitat de València.

During the following three months there will be 10 sessions to discuss about the role of memory in peace process in societies affected by violence. Every Tuesday afternoon, the cycle will focus and extend the discussion about the memory and peace from several perspectives, disciplines, practices and places. ‘In a globalised world it is possible to learn from foreign experiences. We can see how global memory cultures are created through several local experiences’, affirms Francesc Hernàndez who is the director of the University Institute of Educational Creativity and Innovation of the Universitat de València and academic person in charge of the cycle of conferences.

The cycle is organised in three thematic sections: theoretical-methodological discussions of researches about memory and peace; experiences and practices of memory (re)construction in Latin America; and artistic expressions about peace.

The first part aims at presenting theoretical and methodological approaches of researches about the memory construction with social actors and movements. Notions of "victim" and "perpetrator" figures in contexts of violence, as well as discursive practices of silencing will be discussed.

In the second part, processes and results of participatory researches will be presented, as well as experiences and practices of memory reconstruction of NGDOs, memory centres, and so on.

The third part includes an exhibition of artistic products on peace, a participatory workshop and a graffiti. Moreover, a novel on the violence stories in Spain and Germany will be presented. The screening of some films will close the sessions in which there will be a discussion with actors and activists of the civil society.

Each part counts on the contributions of researchers of different fields and social activists.

The activities are addressed to students and PDI of the Universitat de València, NGDO workers as well as to the civil society.
