‘Entresiglos: Literature and History, Culture and Society’

Over a hundred researchers from fourteen European and American countries gather from the 19th to the 21st of October at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication to discuss the definition and articulation of a new Humanism in the digital age.

What are the implications of new forms of communication on the definition of literary heritage? To what extent the new horizons make changes in its production and reception? What strategic actions of social transfer and projection may result from the use of TICs? These are some of the questions the Congress intends to give answers to, during the different plenary talks, panel discussions and parallel sessions of communications.

The progress of research in the field of Digital Humanities will receive special attention and moreover the necessity to overcome national boundaries will be assessed, taking into consideration not only the cultural heritage in Spanish, but also the relation between Spanish philology and others philologies. Furthermore, the participants will delve into the incorporation of literature in Cultural History and will highlight the role of the writers in relation to their writings and environment, giving voice to creators and critics who will discuss the artist’s social responsibility.

By organizing this Congress, the Department of Spanish Philology wanted to pay tribute to the teaching and research career of Professor Joan Oleza, emeritus professor at the University of Valencia. The tribute will take place on Friday, the 21st of October, at 4:30 p.m.
