The QUIJOTE Reading Club in Spanish, organised by Alumni UV, opened the academic year 2022-2023 with the analysis and debate on the novel 'Como polvo en el viento', by the Cuban writer Leonardo Padura, last 4th October, in the Sala Gonzalo Montiel of La Nau Cultural Centre (Universitat 2, València) and in its usual timetable (18:00). The meetings are scheduled, as last year, on the first Tuesday of each month.

Writer and journalist, Leonardo Padura has been internationally known for the success of his detective novels starring Mario Conde, as well as the bestseller ‘The man who loved dogs’ (2009).

However, the QUIJOTE Club, which is once again under the direction of Alumni Ana Maria Garcia Garcia, has chosen to read ‘Como polvo en el viento’, a novel less recognised by the general public but of sublime narrative quality, making it one of the author’s greatest works.

It is the story of a group of friends who have survived a fate of exile and dispersion in Barcelona, Madrid, the USA, Puerto Rico and Buenos Aires. In this context, the reading group will discuss questions such as: what has life done to these friends who were so dear to each other, how has time changed them, what happened to those who left and will the feeling of belonging bring them together again, or are their lives now dust in the wind?

Como polvo en el viento' is thus a hymn to friendship, to the invisible and powerful threads of love and ancient loyalties, against the backdrop of the trauma of diaspora and the forced disintegration of ties.

This reading will be followed by two more until the end of the year: 'El país de los otros', by Leila Slimani, on 8th November; and 'Serge', by Yasmina Reza, on 13th December.
