Albert Hauf participa en actes 700 aniversari de la mort de Ramon Llull

The professor of the UV, Albert Hauf, considered as one of the main researchers on the classics of the Valencian Golden Age, and currently member of the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, participates on Monday, 16 January, at 19:00, in the Cultural Centre La Nau, in the framework of the activities organised by the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives, in a conference titled ‘Ramon Llull o las razones de la fe. Un proyecto de diálogo intercultural’ (Ramon Llull or the reasons of faith. A project of intercultural dialogue). The conference is included coinciding, precisely, with the commemoration of the 700th anniversary of the death of the Majorcan theologian, philosopher and man of letters.

Hauf will focus on the Llull that ‘wants to give reasons for his own faith based on the principles which are shared by the Christians, Jewish and Muslims; the Llull who sympathises with the Sufis, who in theory defended a ceasefire or cessation of ideological hostilities, enablers of a rational dialogue. The conference will start with a complete treatment of fundamental works such as ‘Vida coetània’, the amazing ‘Breviculum’ and systematic remarks on relevant texts, trying to show the paradoxes of the Llull’s utopia and his original parts. If Asín Palacios talked some time ago about a Christianised Islam, in the case of Llull it is about an interesting imitation of an opposite sign, based on observation, direct knowledge and a curious adaptation of characteristic elements of the Muslim culture”, claims the veteran professor.

Albert Hauf (City de Mallorca, 1938) is doctor in Romance Philology by the University of Barcelona (1976), full university professor of Hispanic Studies by the University of Wales and full university professor of Catalan Philology by the UV (1987), where he has worked as main researcher devoted to the research of the classics of the Valencian Golden Age: Ausiàs March, Jaime Roig, sor Isabel de Villena, Francesc Eiximenis, among others.

Professor Hauf is author of more than two hundred research works and countless newspaper and informational articles published throughout his long teaching career. He is also emeritus professor of the University of Wales, member of the Academy of Ecclesiastical History of the Faculty of Theology of Valencia, numerary member of the Historical and Archaeological section of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and honorary member of the Estudi General Lul·lià of Mallorca and of the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres of Barcelona. Since 2001 he is academic of the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua.
