'¿Crisis o consenso de valores?' is a series of four debates in which professors of the Universitat de València Adela Cortina and Jesús Conill talk with the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport, Antonio Ariño, about ethical values in times of crisis. Their main objective is to bring to the forum of public discussion essential values such as dignity, truth, freedom and trust, which are the basis to overcome the urgent local and global problems of our time: climate emergency, social inequalities or the COVID-19 pandemic itself, among others. In this meetings, protagonists reflect on issues such as: What does it mean to take into account the dignity of all people when facing the COVID-19, if it is to be respected? Does security take priority over freedom? Are credibility and legitimacy of institutions the same thing? What does truth mean and to what extent is it essential to keep this value in post-truth times?

Adela Cortina is Professor Emeritus of Ethics and Political Philosophy of the Universitat de València and, since its creation in 1857, she was the first woman to become a full member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas (Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences). She is the director of the inter-university Master's Degree and Doctorate programme 'Ética y Democracia' ('Ethics and Democracy') and of the ÉTNOR foundation. In turn, she has been named Doctor Honoris Causa by twelve national and foreign universities, and she has been a member of the jury of Prince and Princess of Asturias Awards for Communication and Humanities and Social Sciences. She was awarded the International Prize "Ensayo Jovellanos 2007" and the Nacional Prize "Ensayo 2014". Some of her most important works are Ética mínima, Ética sin moral, Ética aplicada y democracia radical, Ciudadanos del mundo, Por una ética del consumo, Ética de la razón cordial, Las fronteras de la persona, Justicia cordial, Neuroética y neuropolítica o ¿Para qué sirve realmente la ética?, which was published by the publisher Paidón and for which she was awarded the National Essay Prize in 2014. Her latest book is Aporofobia, el rechazo al pobre (Paidós, 2017), in which she coins this neologism that refers to the fear, repudiation or aversion to poor people and was chosen as word of the year 2017 by the Español Urgente Foundation (Fundéu). 

Jesús Conill is Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy at the Universitat de València. He was Professor of Philosophy at the INEM and he widened his studies and research at the universities of München, Bonn, Frankfurt a. M. (Germany), St. Gallen (Switzerland) and Notre Dame (USA). Moreover, he is a member of the board of trustees and technical adviser of the Fundación Ética de los Negocios y de las Organizaciones (ÉTNOR, in English: Business and Organizational Ethics Foundation) and co-director of the permanent seminar 'Ética económica y empresarial' (Economic and Business Ethics) of Étnor foundation since 1994. He is also a founding member of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) Spain and a member of the research seminar Xavier Zubiri, as well as a member of the governing board of the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País Valencià (Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Valencian Country). He has also written several books such as El enigma del animal fantástico, El poder de la mentira, Nietzsche y la política de la transvaloración, Horizontes de economía ética, Ética hermenéutica e Intimidad corporal y persona humana, all of them published by Tecnos. 

The debate '¿Crisis o consenso de valores: La Verdad?' will be broadcast live on Wednesday 11 at 6 pm on the YouTube Channel of the Cultural Centre La Nau. You can watch it by clicking the link at the mentioned day and time. The audience can participate live by making comments or asking questions through the chat.
