Alejandra Soler, teacher during the Second Spanish Republic and affiliated to the Academic University Federation (FUE), has passed away today in Valencia at the age of 103. Alejandra Soler received the Medal that the Universitat de València had given to the Academic University Federation in September 2001. The Universitat has expressed its institutional condolences due to the passing of Alejandra, who was Honorary Citizen of the city of Valencia and High Distinction of the Valencian Government.

Alejandra Soler was born in Valencia in 1913. She studied in the Institution for Women’s Education and graduated from secondary school in the Luis Vives High School where she joined the Academic University Foundation, a student movement that fought to modernize education and took part in the student riots during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera.

In 1935 she joined the Communist Party after the right-wing government’s repression related to the uprising of the miners in Asturias. One year later, she graduated in Philosophy and Literature.

In 1939 she set out her road to the exile in the USSR. She came back in 1971 for settling in Madrid and, six years later, in Valencia.

Alejandra Soler, graduated in Philosophy and Literature, was a referent for student associations as she was a member of the Academic University Federation (FUE), an entity that was distinguished by the Universitat de València with its medal in 2001. In the year 2013, at the age of 101, she took part as an activist in the first anniversary of Primavera Valenciana and they recognised her as the grandmother of 15-M. In 2015 she was distinguished as Honorary Citizen of the city of Valencia and received, in 2016, the High Distinction of the Valencian Government in the 9 October Awards.
