This past Saturday, Universitat de València´s theatre group ASSAIG was the recipient of the award “‘Mejor contribución teatral” (“Best theatrical contribution”), from “Cartera Turia”. It is not the first time that UV has been awarded prizes from the historical Valencian magazine. In 2013, “Cartelera Turia” gave the Office of Vice-Pincipal for Culture of Universitat de València the award for best cultural contribution of Valencia.

ASSAIG, UV´s theatre group, directed by Pep Sanchis, will celebrate its 25 anniversary this year. The group was created in 1990 to represent Universitat de València and has since become one of the most relevant theatre groups in the Spanish university scene.

To celebrate the anniversary, UV has organized an array of theatrical activities throughout the academic year and has published a 375-page book which traces the trajectory of the group´s academic background.   ASSAIG has received awards as important as Micalet de Teatres de la Generalitat prize for the non-professional production in the year 2000 and the first prize in the 17th Vila de Mislat competition for the best play in 1998 and 2007 for the performances “Les dones de Sade” and “Per Sant Lluc” respectively.

Several professional actors and playwrights of the contemporary theatre scene, among which are Jorge Picó, Juan Vicente Martínez Luciano, Juanjo Prats, Alfredo Mayordomo, Antoni Tordera, Xavi Puchades, Maria Josep Peris, Ana Conca, Pau Pons, Desirée Belmonte…have collaborated or formed part of ASSAIG. The group has performed unpublished texts and adaptations by great playwrights such as Max Aub, Quim Monzó, Rodolf y Josep Lluís Sirera, Carles Pons, Arturo Sánchez, Xavi Puchades, Patricia Pardo, Juli Disla o Las Federicas, among others.
