The ‘autumn-winter’ Unisocietat conference cycle continues in all regional seats.

‘Autumn-winter’ Unisocietat conference cycle

Benetússer, Cullera, Quart de Poblet, Massamagrell, l’Eliana, Gandia, Ontinyent, Paterna, Requena and Alzira will host the conference of this training cycle organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation with the aim of complementing the academic course of UNISOCIETAT. Conferences are free for all citizens of the town and its environment.

The first conferences will take place on Wednesday 11 January. Benetússer (Horta Sud) will host at the Cultural Centre "El Molí” the lecture by Professor Matilde Fernández (Department of Business Finance), which will deal with indebtedness in personal finance. On the same day, at the Cullera Municipal Auditorium (Ribera Baixa), Professor Emilio Barba (Microbiology and Ecology) will give a conference entitled ‘Sexual selection: love or interest when choosing a partner?’.  

On Thursday 12 January, the problem of emerging pollutants will star in the talk at the Casa de la Cultura of Quart de Poblet (Horta Oest), which will be taught by Professor Yolanda Picó (Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Food Sciencs, Toxicology and Forensic Medicine). 

Massamagrell (Horta Nord) will host the conference ‘Before contemporary feminism. Defences of gender equality in Europe's past’, by Professor Mònica Bolufer (Department of Modern and Contemporary History) on Tuesday 17 January at its Cultural Centre. 

On Wednesday 18 January will take place the conferences of ‘Unimajors’ Gandia (name of the specific programme with which it is known in the capital of la Safor) and l'Eliana (Camp de Túria). The International Centre of Gandia will receive Professor Manuel Costa, Emeritus Professor of Botany at the Universitat, who will address the particularities of the Mediterranean climate beyond its basin. The conference ‘Building a sustainable present and future: a challenge for all citizens’ will be held at the Centre de Formació de Persones Adultes of l’Eliana. The attendees will be able to find out more about this subject through the theses of Amparo Vilches (Department of Experimental and Social Sciences Teaching). 

On 19 January, the UNISOCIETAT conference cycle will reach three different locations: Ontinyent, Paterna and Requena. In the capital of la Vall d’Albaida, Professor Juan Vte. García Marsilla (Art History) will give the conference ‘Reading medieval pictures. Codes and messages of a different language’. In Paterna, capital of l'Horta Nord region, mathematics and statistics for daily life will construct the conference by Felix Ruiz (Applied Economics). And Requena (Meseta de Requena-Utiel) will have the conference by Antonio Domenech (Analytical Chemistry), entitled ‘Authentication and dating of art works'’.

This month’s last conference will take place in Alzira (Ribera Alta) on 24 January. Under the title ‘Understanding ourselves in the era of cell revolution’, Professor Isabel Fariñas (Celular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology) will share her studies with the attendees. 

The UNISOCIETAT conference cycle, which will continue every month until June, has been organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, in collaboration with the City Councils of Alzira, Benetússer, Cullera, l’Eliana, Gandia, Massamagrell, Ontinyent, Paterna, Quart de Poblet and Requena, and the financial support of Caixa Popular and Caixa Ontinyent (at la Vall d’Albaida). Its purpose is to complement the academic courses of the UNISOCIETAT programme, which brings together more than 1.500 enrolled students in the 2016-2017 academic year.
