The Biomedical Research Congress (CIB) celebrates its 9th edition

The Burjassot Campus of the University of Valencia is the host for the 9th Biomedical Research Congress, a meeting point for students, researchers and scientists that will be held in a hybrid format.

From the 10th to the 12th of March, the Burjassot Campus of the University of Valencia will host the 9th edition of the Biomedical Research Congress (CIB), an event organised mainly by students of the University with a scientific and informative nature. The aim is to provide a meeting point for students, researchers and scientists.

This edition will be attended by a total of 350 participants and will be held in a hybrid format, which combines in-person activities with attendance through virtual platforms. As a result scientific quality, workshops and organised competitions can be enjoyed safely.

The CIB 2021 has organised a total of 33 different workshops on topics ranging from genomic surveillance, technological innovation such as artificial intelligence or 3D segmentation applied to medicine, to research on specific microorganisms and basic techniques.

Furthermore, the Congress will feature lectures, talks and debates with the participation of renowned speakers of the research world, such as Marcela del Río, UC3M-CIEMAT researcher and Doctor in Pharmacy; José Miguel Mulet, researcher and science communicator; Ángela Nieto, lecturer in Research at the CSIC-UMH Instituto de Neurociencas and member of CIBERER; and Eduardo Oliver, researcher at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III, among others.

The opening ceremony took place this morning in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Valencia, with the participation of the principal of the University of Valencia, M. Vicenta Mestre; the dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, M. Carmen Bañó; the president of the 9th Biomedical Research Congress, Aroa Ferrer; the economic director of INCLIVA, Vicente de Juan; the representative of FISABIO, Patricia Fernández; the vice-dean of Academic Regulations of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Amparo Ruiz; the representative of CSIC in the Valencian Community, Juan Fuster; and the general director of the CAC, Enrique Vidal.

This was followed by the first scientific and informative activity by Ángela Nieto, who gave the inaugural lecture entitled Activación aberrante de programas embrionarios de cáncer y degeneración de órganos.
