The UV women's basketball team went to the national championship after winning gold in the past regional championships. The team is made up of a large number of new players, and "with a long way to go", says coach Pau Gaya. The girls were proclaimed third in Spain after playing a tight match against the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM 62 - 64 UV), which was decided with the last two free-kicks. "The assessment is very positive," adds Gaya.
For its part, the men's team suffered two defeats in the first and second round, respectively, being left out of the championship and without options to medal.
The other bronze metal was for the men's UV paddle tennis team, which also reached the CEU as regional champion. The male team formed by Sergio Icardo and Salvador Oria closed the championship organized by the Catholic University of València with the bronze medal. The female couple, made up of Sonia Monrabel and Esther García, were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
