Call for applications for the Francisca Lorente Solaz Award for young women researchers in chemistry is open

The Faculty of Chemistry of the Universitat de València has announced the Francisca Lorente Solaz award, endowed with one thousand euros, for young women researchers in Chemistry. To be eligible for the award you must be a woman, graduate or undergraduate in Chemistry (after 2012); or a doctor within a program of the University of Valencia in the area of Chemistry; and under 30 years (in case of having children, the age is increased by one year per child).

Francisca Lorente Solaz (Valencia, 1891-1981) was the first woman graduated in Sciences, Chemistry Section, by the University of Valencia, in 1917. Between 1920 and 1922, she collaborated in the Laboratory of Physical Research, created in Madrid in 1910 by the Board for the Extension of Studies. Her research focused on electrochemistry and electroanalysis, under the direction of Enrique Moles, together with Carmen Pradel. In 1931 she worked as a teacher in the municipal laboratory of Chemical Sciences of Valencia, directed by Vicente Candela Ortells, and from 1932 as a pharmacist in the Avenida del Puerto of this city.
