The Cinema Club of the University opens the film series ‘Toxics, culture, justice’ at the Cerveró Palace on Thursday 3 de November with the film ‘Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain’ (2014). On it, the filmmaker Ravi Kumar creates a story based on the events that caused the worst industrial accident in India.

On Thursday 10 November one of the most prestigious films of the documentary cinema of the last years as it is Darwin's Nightmare (‘Le cauchemar de Darwin’, Hubert Sauper, 2004) in which the social and environmental impacts of the fishing industry on Lake Victoria in Tanzania are narrated will follow the first film.

Finally, the film ‘Into Eternity’ (2010) closes this film series on 17 November. In this film by Michael Madsen it is shown the difficulty of ending waste and the need to create a store for them that can be marked so it will be recognizable for future generations.

On the other hand, the programme starts on Tuesday 8 November with ‘American Psycho’ (Mary Harron, 2000). This film depicts a morally plane world, where it stands out an apparently perfect character, that nevertheless, acts in a violent way. The next session, on Tuesday 15 November, it will be shown Beijing Bicycle (Shiqi sui de dan che, Wang Xiaoshuai, 2001), a film that shows the poverty in China, and how its protagonist values what he has worked hardest for, symbolised by his bicycle.

On Tuesday 22 November, the programming goes on with ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ (James Foley, 1992). This film, tells the story lives of busy state agents of Chicago and theirs strategies to carry out their business, revealing the misery of a highly competitive society.

On Tuesday 29 November, it will be projected the film ‘They Live’ (John Carpenter, 1988), a denounce film concealed of science fiction, that shows us that our world is completely different from what our eyes see, in a society that is manageable through subliminal messages.

Finally, the film series will be closed with two sessions in December. On Tuesday 13 December it will be projected ‘The Contestant’ (Rodrigo Cortés, 2007), a fable about the fatal consequences of the capitalism, where an ordinary citizen is locked in. And finally, on Tuesday 20 December, it will be projected ‘Capital’ (Costa-Gavras, 2012), a portrait by a committed director to the unstoppable ascent of a bank worker based in the cynicism and the use of the weaker members.

On the other hand, on the programme of ‘Cinema in Valencian’, promoted by the Language Policy Service (SPL) of the UV, the documentary ‘Mariola, mountains of freedom’ (Mariola, serra de llibertat) will be shown on the Musical de Benimaclet, on Thursday 3 November at 20 hours, at the attendance of the directors. In Ontinyent, with the collaboration of the SPL, in the Cinema Exhibition it’s being projected a film series of Ventura Pons until 6 November.
