The Valencian player Carlos López, has won the National University Tennis Championship. The Universitat de València adds another medal with the bronze in teams.

The Universitat de València went to the National University Tennis Championship (CEU) playing in individual, female and doubles: male, female and mixed. The Championship was organised by the University of Alicante, which began last Tuesday and ended yesterday with the last day and the final competitions.

Carlos López, from Algemesí, is a first year student of Physiotherapy in the Universitat de València, who concluded the CEU winning all the matches in two sets.  The Valencian played against José Francisco Vidal of the UCAM, where he got a 6/1 6/2 and won the title of National Tennis Champion. ‘He is a guy with a lot of progression in the tennis world... He is just 18 years and he’s playing the junior Roland Garros... he is one of the best juniors that exist in this moment’ remarks his selector Amparo Llópez.

‘A championship with a lot of level, both in female and male’ sums up the tournament Llópez. In female individuals, the UV lost in the first round. In female doubles, the UV lost against the winners of the tournament, the girls from the UCAM; in male doubles, the boys were left at the gates of winning a medal after losing 10/8 in the tie-break against the University of Seville; and in mixed doubles, the partners from the UV lost in the super tie-break 11/9 against the University of the Basque Country and finally were eights.

In the final team’s classification, the UCAM won the gold, the University of Granada the silver and the UV the bronze.
